Tutoring service horror story, fake testing already in 2012, Long Island, NY

Tutoring service “tested” 2 children after mom sought help

Tutoring services, there are so many. How does a parent weed out the winners from the losers? Read on. We always knew this kind of tutoring service horror story happens from time to time. After all, we are New Yorkers, and, we do know people. However, just because we know this kind of stuff happens, that doesn’t make its occurrence any less despicable.

Mrs. T (T is short for “Tried her best”) came to us last week after an awful personal experience with a very well-known tutoring service on Long Island. We won’t say who they are, but, they know they did it, and, they’ve probably done it to other parents and students who came to them for private tutoring service. Type in any of several possible online searches for tutoring services in Nassau County, and you will undoubtedly come across online tutoring ads for this operation. At this point, we can’t say more about who they are because we’ve already been “threatened” with legal action because of the way we’ve told the TRUTH before. So, all we can say now is that the tutoring service operation in question is ONE OF THE BIG GUYS – enough said.

Mother takes fake results from tutoring service to Catholic school, learns truth

Well, to make a long story short, the mother had gone to this particular tutoring service because she wanted tutoring for her twins. Apparently, someone there thought they saw her coming. Mrs.T’s two children were “tested” and she was given the very sad, and expensive news about the kind of tutoring her 2 children would need. However, fortunately for this mom, who we commend for doing her homework, she took those testing results straight to her children’s teachers (at a private Catholic school in Nassau County) where she was promptly told that the tutoring service’s “testing” just didn’t look right. Her children’s teacher went on to explain in detail that the alleged new “results” for her twins did not match the official results that were already on record. For example, areas of testing where her children did well before, repeatedly, all of a sudden produced alarmingly low scores. Further inspection revealed that the tutoring service apparently fabricated their own test results and that these”new” results failed to match the testing results the school already had on record for years.

tutoring serviceWhew! Next Level Tutoring was so glad to hear that this particular mother had done her homework! Mrs. T knew that parents must be involved in the whole tutoring process. Had she not gone back to her children’s school once her children had been tested, there’s no telling what kind of time and money she and her children might have wasted. It is unthinkable that a tutoring service would actually fabricate testing results in order to literally steal money from customers, but the truth is that it happens. And, as far as that big name company is concerned, one of the few with an abundance of tutoring ads, there is no telling how many other families they’ve lied to, or, will lie to in the future. You can count one thing: every time we hear a story like this, our tutoring service, Next Level Tutoring, will stand at the highest mountain top and yell, “Shame on you!”, to our competition.

The tutoring service lesson, parents must do their homework too

As parents, you too must do your homework. Once you get an in home private tutor, that’s only the beginning. In home tutoring success begins with communication between tutors, teachers, parents and students. No lies allowed. Congrats to Mrs. T, and, we’re sure she will now be one of our many happy customers on Long Island. We don’t make this stuff up. We promise. Happy President’s Day Weekend! See you soon, and we’ll have more in home tutoring news and tutoring service tips from Next Level Tutoring!

Math Tutoring – The Most Popular Way to Help a Struggling Student

Math Tutoring – Get a Tutor with Experience and Strong Skills

Math tutoring is an area of interest that is tops when one considers the broad range of subjects in which parents seek in home tutoring help for their children. At Next Level Tutoring we frequently tell our parents that it’s very important that the tutor who helps your child has experience and a strong background in mathematics. It is also important that the tutor possess excellent communication skills and have the ability to identify whatever learning method is necessary to assist the struggling student who requires more learning instruction than is available in his or her classroom. Math tutoring is one of the most popular areas of interest for private in home tutors and struggling students.

Parents usually seek math tutoring assistance after their child encounters difficulty in more than one area of mathematics testing and performance. Typically, by the time the parent seeks help, the student needs assistance in more than one area of the subject. Usually, the experienced tutor can quickly identify areas of concern and these may be the result of ongoing learning issues in which problems were compounded because a solid learning foundation in the subject was not present and because new areas of advanced learning were introduced before “the basics” were mastered. For example, math tutors often discover that a student in a math tutoring session is struggling with dividing fractions because multiplication tables were never learned completely and comfortably. It’s often that simple.

Math Tutoring – In Home Private Tutoring

Math tutoring is one of those subject areas where private in home tutoring clearly produces the best results if you consider that most students respond favorably to the individualized attention that one receives from a private tutor. Group tutoring situations frequently yield positive results for boys and girls who have fallen behind their classmates or for those who just are not performing as well as they should, but in home private math tutoring has regularly yielded the best results in the shortest time.

Countless studies have revealed that students who have the benefit of math tutoring perform better in the classroom and those students also perform better on standardized tests. Math tutoring not only helps students who are lacking in foundational skills, but, math tutoring can also be of tremendous assistance to the family seeking help in order to prepare for advanced studies in mathematics. Student who must prepare for Advanced Placement courses and college study often rely on math tutoring to learn how to perform better and faster than their peers in order to be competitive for goals such as college admissions and college-level course credit.

Does Online Math Tutoring Work?

It’s very common for students to quickly begin to benefit from math tutoring especially if an in home private tutor provides the necessary personal assistance. Many parents ask us whether online math tutoring can replace private tutoring sessions. Well, there’s no way that you can expect comparable results from the same time invested if you measure and compare how students benefit. A skilled private tutor who is well-trained will always render better results than some anonymous online program. We do advise that parents use a wide variety of online resources that can help student at different levels, but, expecting great results from an online tutoring program is such a gamble especially if the student and parents are having trouble identifying the areas in which the student needs development. You simply cannot beat having a math tutor spend the precious but invaluable time it takes to personally evaluate the help your child needs in order to turn those Ds and Fs into As and Bs. In home private math tutoring could be what you child needs this week in order to begin to succeed – right now. Study on!

Tutoring Ads: A Little Help Making Sense of In Home Tutoring Services

More Tutoring Ads Than You Can Shake a Stick At!

So many tutoring ads, so little time! And they told us years ago that computers would make everything easier. Well, don’t lament, the professionals at Next Level Tutoring are here to give you a hand making sense of it all. Let’s say you’ve just seen another less than satisfactory grade from the child you love so much. You’ve decide that it’s really time to get some help for your son or daughter, and you want to find the best in home tutoring available. You fire up the laptop, figuring,” Tutoring ads? Piece of cake!”. You open up a browser with your favorite search engine, type in “tutoring services” and hit enter. The screen winces and in 0.03 seconds, “voilà!” -  8,020,000 tutoring ads and links to choose from – great.

Tutoring Ads on the Net – A Sign of the Times

Why so many tutoring ads? Think about the timing. Prior to the 1990s, tutoring ads on the computer just didn’t exist. At that time, the in home tutoring industry was hardly connected with itself, and was forced to primarily make contacts and sales the old-fashioned way: by word of mouth, through the phone book (does anyone still use those?), by traveling door to door, or maybe through newspaper tutoring ads, etc. However, the new millennium brought the decline of the newspaper industry, the rise of the internet and the search engine, and, computer tutoring ads were born. But let’s be clear: you are not looking for group tutoring ads, and online tutoring ads aren’t going to help you because you know that your pre-adolescent gaming wizard who is failing math is far too easily tempted by all the other fun stuff on the net that’s just a click away. Just like that catchy “J.G. Wentworth” commercial, you need in home tutoring, and you need it now. Let’s dive into the huge pool of tutoring ads and try to make it out without drowning.

Reading Between the Tutoring Ads (Lines)

If your start scrolling through the thousands of pages of your online “in home tutoring” search, you will certainly see several hits for Club Z in home tutoring. Club Z is practically everywhere, and, that’s one of the reasons you cannot ignore it. This company exploded at the end of the 1990s and quickly became number one in the in home tutoring niche. Some people swear by this company, but there are critics who question Club Z’s quality of service, claiming that it can vary greatly from one of these franchises to the next, so, don’t assume they’re like McDonald’s and Big Macs. Also, let’s all agree that just because a company has the most franchises or tutoring ads, that doesn’t mean that those tutoring ads necessarily deliver the best service available. We won’t unfairly attack this company and their proliferation of tutoring ads, but, it’s just that scrutinizing the quality of Club Z in home tutoring is a topic for another blog :)

Make Sure It’s In Home Tutoring Ads

You should also be aware of another company out there paying for quite a few tutoring ads -Kumon. They aren’t everywhere like Club-you-know-who, but they’re around. Once again, there are people who won’t hesitate to deliver heartfelt testimonials with “thumbs up” for Kumon. However, if you are specifically looking for in home tutoring, you are simply not looking for Kumon. This tutoring company runs tutoring centers and employs a method that may not match your child’s curriculum. If you really feel that you don’t want to leave your child at one of their centers, then Kumon is not for you. Once again, we’re not badmouthing the competition. But, you can breeze right past this company’s tutoring ads, because you want in home tutoring.

Dig Deeper than Tutoring Ads – Is There a Good Feeling All Around?

And then there are the tutoring ads for Wyzant (Wise – Ant – get it?!?). This is another tutoring operation that has a large following of customers. However, Wyzant reviews reveal at least one insider who feels the company’s system of anonymous review of their tutors is flawed. For example, students who run late, miss most of a session and get billed for it get to retaliate by “failing” the tutor (who wouldn’t?). Therefore, the ratings each Wyzant tutor receives don’t always indicate the tutors ability. Furthermore, some people say this in home tutoring company does some very aggressive marketing with tutoring ads and social marketing tools, and, that may or may not appeal to you as a prospective customer (or tutor).    tutoring ads

Tutoring Ads – The Search for a Gem

So what tutoring ads are left? Well, there are plenty, and you can always pick one of the above, if you like. But, sometimes, if you look at one of the small or medium-sized in home tutoring services in your area, you might be lucky enough to find one that can deliver stellar service and excellent private in home tutoring. If you look carefully, and shop around a bit, you might be lucky enough to find that perfect tutoring match for your son or daughter. Many non-franchise in home tutoring companies, like ours, Next Level Tutoring, based in Oceanside, New York, have dedicated, experienced staff with proven educational track records. They just don’t have 8 million tutoring ads!
